Kovacic wrote his name into our club's history by forming part of the squad that won three Champions League titles in succession. The Croatian international joined the club at the start of that cycle, in the summer of 2015. He was only 21 years old but had already gathered a wealth of experience at the highest level, having made his mark at Inter Milan.
In his first season he inspired the team to the Undécima against Atlético in Milan. In that Champions League edition he struck the first of his three goals as a madridista, against Malmö at the Bernabéu. In the following campaign he enhanced his influence in midfield and helped to cap a fantastic 2016/17 season with four trophies: European Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and LaLiga title.
In his final campaign at the club, he enjoyed more European Cup success, winning the Decimotercera in Kyiv. His role as a central midfielder in that Zidane-led side was instrumental in winning four more trophies in that 2017/18 season: European Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA European Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup.
