The LaLiga champions head to the Metropolitano for the derby
PREVIEW.
The derby clash with Atlético at the Wanda Metropolitano closes out another special week for madridismo. These have been intense days for our team, having run out 4-0 winners against Espanyol last weekend to get their hands on a 35th league title. It was the culmination to a superb campaign which saw Ancelotti's boys dominate from start to finish. Then, Wednesday served up another epic night at the Santiago Bernabéu which ended with a place in the Champions League final.

Before the showpiece event in Paris on May 28, it's time to focus on the last four LaLiga fixtures. To finish off the championship on a winning run would be the best possible preparation for the game against Liverpool. Tonight will see the team looking for a sixth successive league victory. If they're to clinch it, it will be important to maintain the impressive levels away from home, where Ancelotti's charges have given away just two draws and two defeats in 17 games.
“It's important to maintain the rhythm of our game and respect the competition", said Ancelotti in the pre-match press conference. The Italian coach has already named his squad for the derby. On the list is current Pichichi leader, Karim Benzema, who has 26 goals in the league to date as he continues his incredible run of scoring a goal a game this season 43 goals in 43 matches.

The opposition
Atlético begin the round in fourth place with a record of 18 wins, 7 draws and 9 defeats. Despite losing last time out at Athletic, they are on a run of four wins and a draw at home in the league. The head-to-head sees Madrid unbeaten in the last 11 league derbies, having won 2-0 at the Bernabéu in the first half of the season.
