NEWS.
On 13 June 1956, Real Madrid got their hands on the first ever European Cup following a historic clash with Stade de Reims. Paris' Parc des Princes was the venue for a thrilling final, as the French side went 0-2 up in the opening minutes. Di Stéfano and Rial pulled the game back level before the break but Hidalgo netted again for Stade de Reims with 62 minutes on the clock. Our team would go on to begin their legendary European status though, with a spectacular comeback in the closing stages thanks to goals for Marquitos and Rial, who completed his brace.

In the inaugural edition, Real Madrid made their European Cup debut against Servette on 8 September 1955 in Geneva. Miguel Muñoz hit the madridista opener in the tournament, in a 0-2 win. The team's following rivals on their way to the showpiece were Partizan and Milan.

Sixty-seven years on from that final, Real Madrid are the greatest club in European Cup history, with 14 titles. They have also been involved in the most editions 53, taken the most wins 285 and scored the most goals 1,047.
