On 27 April 1958, Real Madrid celebrated their sixth LaLiga title. With Carniglia in the dugout, our team made mathematically sure of the title in the penultimate game of the season, when they drew with Atlético de Madrid 1-1 at the Estadio Metropolitano. The rojiblancos went ahead in the first half but Rial made it all square with 76 minutes on the clock to get their hands on the LaLiga trophy.

That season, Real Madrid led Atlético in the table with a three-point advantage, going unbeaten at home for the entire campaign. Di Stéfano, with 19 goals, clinched the Pichichi Trophy, level with Badenes Valladolid and Ricardo Alós Valencia. The madridistas also conceded the fewest goals in the championship, at 26.
