Sixty-third anniversary of club's fourth European Cup triumph
Real Madrid beat Stade de Reims 2-0 in Stuttgart on 3 June 1959.
Real Madrid won their fourth consecutive European Cup on 3 June 1959 with a 2-0 victory over Stade de Reims. The two teams repeated the final of the first edition of this competition, but this time at the Neckarstadion in Stuttgart and with Real Madrid coming away with a better result. Real Madrid went in front after just two minutes thanks to a goal from Mateos before Di Stéfano made it 2-0 after the break to round off the scoring.
On the road to the final, Real Madrid beat Besiktas, Wiener SK and Atlético de Madrid. The semi-final against the Rojiblancos was the first European derby and a deciding game was needed to determine the finalist. The match was played in Zaragoza and the Madridistas won 2-1, with Di Stéfano and Puskas getting the goals. Several years later, Real Madrid lifted the European Cup again on 3 June. That triumph was in 2017, when the club claimed the Duodécima against Juventus.
