Real Madrid celebrated the club's sixth LaLiga title on 27 April 1958. Luis Carniglia's charges mathematically clinched the league honours on the penultimate matchday after claiming a 1-1 draw against Atlético Madrid at the Estadio Metropolitano. The Rojiblancos hit the front in the first half, before Rial restored parity with a 76th-minute leveller to secure the title.

That season saw Real Madrid pip Atlético to top spot by three points and go unbeaten at home. Di Stéfano, who notched 19 goals, shared the league Pichichi Trophy with Badenes Valladolid and Ricardo Alós Valencia. The madridistas ended the season with the meanest backline after being breached on 26 occasions.
