Today marks the 34th anniversary of Real Madrid's 21st Copa de España triumph. On 17 November 1988, the Whites clinched the title after seeing off Barcelona in the final 85-81. The Catalan side dominated the first half and held a five-point lead at half-time 43-48. But Lolo Sainz's men rallied in the second half and bounced back to add another trophy to their silverware cabinet.

Petrovic was instrumental in the final, which was contested in La Coruña, and he finished as the game's top scorer with 27 points. The Balkan star was followed closely by Rogers, who racked up 23 points. This was Madrid's first trophy of the 1988/89 campaign, a season that also saw them clinch the Cup Winners' Cup courtesy of another outstanding scoring display by Petrovic.
