Unicaja-Real Madrid: first pre-season test
Chus Mateo's men take on the Andalusian team in the opening game of the eleventh edition of the Torneo Costa del Sol (8:30pm CEST).
Real Madrid face their first game in preparation for the new season, which gets underway on 24 September with the Endesa Super Cup semi-finals. Starting today, our team will be taking part in the Torneo Costa del Sol, a triangular tournament alongside Unicaja de Málaga and Zalgiris Kaunas, which runs until Tuesday. This evening, the opener sees our team face the Andalusian outfit at the Pabellón Fernando Arguelles in Antequera 8:30pm CEST.
The tournament has become a regular fixture in Real Madrid's pre-season preparations. For yet another year, our team will be involved in one of the most prestigious competitions of the summer, having won it on five occasions, including four of the last five editions 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. It's a first test for the team led by Chus Mateo, who after three weeks of training at Real Madrid City, will want to start getting back on the road to match fitness.

Unicaja head into the game in better shape following two friendlies - one ending in a win over Real Coosur Betis and the other a loss to Sporting de Portugal. Both teams will be without their internationals currently on duty at the Eurobasket and the Copa América, in Madrid's case, as well as those who continue to recover from injuries. Ibon Navarro's team have brought in several new faces. Brizuela, Alberto Díaz and Barreiro remain, while they have added experienced players in every area with the likes of the returning Will Thomas and Lima alongside Djedovic and Carter, among others.
