Real Madrid v Valencia Basket: out to make it clean sweep of wins for week

This evening sees Real Madrid close out another demanding week, which yielded two wins in the EuroLeague double-round week against Olympiacos and Zenit, with the match-up against Valencia Basket. Today's game will be the third in the space of five days at the WiZink Center for the league leaders, who face off against the team that lies fourth in the standings ahead of this round and has won each of its last three matches.

Pablo Laso's troops, who lie top of the pile with 16 wins in 19 games, welcome opponents who always provide a stern test and have claimed victories over Lenovo Tenerife and Unicaja in its last two road trips. The Taronjas arrive in town feeling fresher than a Madrid side that has had a heavy schedule of late. This is the Whites' fifth match in 10 days and they still have a further three to come prior to the Copa del Rey.
This contest features two of the competition's most valued sides. Madrid has shown itself to be very solid, with great balance in offense and defense. The madridistas allow almost seven points less than the Valencians 71.5 to 78.2, although there's less separating the teams in offense. Joan Peñarroya's men are formidable in offense and boast a balanced roster with good depth. Dubljevic paces the team and along with Tobey, Rivero and Labeyrie make Valencia a consistent force. On the outside, the guests offer a big threat on three-points through former madridista Prepelic, Van Rossom, Dimitrijevic and Hermannsson.

Victory in only head-to-head this season
Real Madrid ran out 79-93 winners in the reverse match-up at La Fonteta courtesy of a strong team performance from our boys in which six players ended the game in double digits in the PIR stakes. Tavares, Poirier and Yabusele have been the leading lights for the leaders. Should the hosts secure victory today, Laso would become the madridista coach with the most wins to his name. He's currently tied with Lolo Sainz on 361 triumphs.
