Barça-Real Madrid: second Clásico clash of the season
Chus Mateo's team head to the Palau in the Euroleague following victory in the Super Cup final (8:30pm CEST).
Real Madrid and Barça go head-to-head at the Palau Blaugrana tonight in the second Clásico encounter of the season so far. The two teams cross paths once more just eighteen days on from our team getting their hands on a ninth Super Cup in Seville with a win over the azulgranas 89-83. Chus Mateo's boys will be hoping to clinch a second away win in the Euroleague to extend their six-game winning run at the start of this new campaign.
Tonight's meeting will be Madrid's third in a row away from the WiZink Center. A visit to the Palau is never easy, but our team have already overcome serious challenges on the road this season, winning at courts like Panathinaikos and Unicaja. The team led by Chus Mateo put on an impressive display in their Euroleague opener at the OAKA Arena 68-71, while Barça lost at home to Greek opposition in Olympiacos 60-70.

Our team have come out the blocks strongly. Six wins in six, coming through differing kinds of games, both high-scoring Bàsket Girona and low, like last week's, where they restricted Panathinaikos to 68 and Unicaja to 71. It's a different story for Barça, who have lost three on the bounce the Super Cup final, Gran Canaria in the League and Olympiacos in the Euroleague. Nonetheless, Madrid will have to maintain their concentration and match the defensive intensity of their rivals, who are being led by Jokubaitis, Kalinic, Higgins, Abrines and Vesely so far.
Last Euroleague clash went the way of the Whites
Chus Mateo will have Abalde back available, having missed out on the Super Cup final, but Rudy misses out alongside the existing injury list. Barça are without Sergi Martínez, Kuric and Mirotic. For our boys, Tavares, who delivered a historic display in the Super Cup final recording a PIR of 40, will be in the squad for sure. He'll be backed by a team who are taking it in turns to lead the charge, Musa, Hezonja, Llull, Poirier… The last Euroleague meeting between these two teams came in the Final Four semi-finals last term in Belgrade, and was resolved in the madridistas' favour, 83-86. Tonight, the Palau plays host to the second Clásico of this fledgling campaign.
