Today marks the 23rd anniversary of Real Madrid's 28th basketball league title. On 5 June 2000, Sergio Scariolo's charges were crowned champions after defeating Barcelona 73-82 in the fifth and last game of the final series. The Whites overcame Barcelona's home-court advantage and in clash Scott (27 in PIR), Alberto Angulo (19 points), Lucio Angulo (12) and a killer Djordjevic in the decisive moments (10) overwhelmed the Catalan side.
In the Regular Season, the madridistas finished second in the league with a record of 23 wins and 11 defeats. The road to the playoffs saw Madrid take on Gran Canaria in the quarter-finals and a local derby against Estudiantes in the semi-finals, which was settled in five games. In the series against Barcelona, Alberto Angulo was voted MVP of the final.
