Real Madrid's unbeaten run continued with a sixth consecutive win over Athletic at Lezama. Nahikari, Athenea and Weir got the goals that gave Real Madrid all three points in their second league game. It's now six wins from six games so far, and the team coached by Alberto Toril have conceded just the one goal.
The match got off to a slow start, but both sides upped the intensity as the game went on. Our team created three good chances, including a shot from Olga that went just wide after hitting a defender. The tempo of the game dropped at the midway point of the first half. Real Madrid, however, pressed high and their opening goal came as a result (29'). Weir took advantage of a poor pass from Quiñones and played in Nahikari, who slotted past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the season.
Just five minutes before half-time, Real Madrid doubled the lead. Svava broke down the left before Weir produced her second assist of the afternoon. The Scotswoman played the ball out to Athenea, who struck the ball well from the edge of the box to make it two. The game was a much more open affair in the second half, but our team remained in control at all times. Second-half substitute Esther had a chance to put the game to bed, but her effort in the 79th minute went just wide.
The visitors' best chance of the game came in injury time, but Misa was on hand to prevent Athletic getting a goal back. Caroline Weir then put the icing on the cake adding a goal to her two assists, making it 3-0 after a pass from Maite Oroz.
