Marcelo spoke ahead of the Champions League final against Liverpool at the Stade de France (9pm CET). The captain said: “There’s a lot of excitement. We’ve been playing in this competition for a long time and we know how important it is to reach a final. We’ve had a great season and we deserve to be in the final. The players are up for it and we want to win the Champions League”.
“Everyone knows how much I love Real Madrid, the club of my life. Fluminense gave me everything and Madrid have given me everything. I'm not going to say anything here. There's no need for a statue because my story happened here. I've given everything and I'm going to carry on giving everything. We'll see what happens after the final”.
“Karim’s got real quality and is a great leader. He’s been playing really well for a long time and he’s been a leader. His presence really helps the side. He’s a top player and that’s helping the team”.
Nerves for the final
“I’ve been nervous since we won the semi-final. We know what it means to play in a final at this club.
It’s normal to be nervous, but they went once we got here to play the final”.
“Having Brazilians in a Champions League final is always a source of pride for my country. The more Brazilians come to play in this competition, the happier I am. My message to them is to enjoy football and the Champions League final, which is a great thing”.
Praise for Ancelotti
“I’ve known the coach for eight years. I’ve been lucky to train with him, and as well as understanding football really well, he knows how to manage the dressing room. It’s normal for everyone at the club to want to play, participate and be important. From my point of view, we’ve hardly had any problems this season and that’s all thanks to the coach. He calms us down and always tells us the truth. We’re full of confidence for the job ahead. We all want to play an important part and we all do”.
