The Latin Cup was the first international competition that brought together the best teams from France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Gento was involved in it twice, playing every minute and winning the title on both occasions
The Cantabrian won the competition in the first edition in 1955 as Real Madrid beat Os Belenenses in the opening match and Stade de Reims in the final. Our team went on to win it again in 1957, with Gento's hat-trick in the semi-final against Milan proving vital. Real Madrid beat Benfica in the decisive match.

2-0 (min. 68): Rial.
SECOND LATIN CUP (23/06/1957):
1- Real Madrid: Alonso, Lesmes II, Marquitos, Torres, Ruiz, Muñoz, Joseíto, Gento, Kopa, Rial and Di Stéfano.
0- Benfica: Costa, Calado, Serra, Angelo, Zizinho, Alfredo, Palmeiro, Colonna, Aguas, Cayado and Caben.
Goal:
1-0 (min. 50): Di Stéfano.
