Karim Benzema continues to improve his spectacular record at Real Madrid. The Frenchman’s latest brace, this time to help see off Valencia, took his tally beyond the 300-goal mark for the Whites. The striker has now netted 301 times in 584 games. After the clash Benzema was presented with a commemorative jersey by club president Florentino Pérez and was pleased with his achievement: “I’m proud to reach this figure at this club. It makes me really happy because for me this club’s the best in the world. We played really well today ".
"After the defeat against Getafe we won in the cup and we put on a great display for the fans today. It was even in the first half. No games are easy. The opposition wanted to win too, but in the end we managed to win and that’s the most important thing for us”.
Partnership with Vini Jr.
“These are really important figures. If we can help the team with goals and assists we’ll do it in every game. I always feel good with Vini Jr. and I'm here to help him, he’s got great potential, he can go higher and he's a fantastic player for us. He helps us a lot. We have to keep going like this. I think we deserved the win”.
Fourth madridista to reach 300 goals
Benzema becomes the fourth player to eclipse the 300-goal mark as a madridista. Before him, came Di Stéfano (308), Raúl (323) and Cristiano Ronaldo (451). The next milestone in the Frenchman’s sights will be to write himself into the history books as the club’s third-highest all-time goalscorer. He now sits just 7 goals away from equalling Di Stéfano’s tally.
The forward has also managed to find the back of the net in every single competition he has been involved in with Real Madrid. His 301 goals have come spread across the following tournaments: 209 in LaLiga, 64 in the Champions League, 21 in the Copa del Rey, 3 in the Club World Cup, 3 in the Spanish Super Cup and 1 in the European Super Cup.
