Gento decided the final against Milan with a goal in extra-time.The Heysel stadium in Brussels was the scene of the most close-fought European Cup final so far. Real Madrid and Milan played the first extra-time in the decisive game in Europe's biggest competition. The Italian side went ahead twice in the second half, but the madridistas were not going to let the chance to be champions slip away and levelled things up with goals from Di Stéfano and Rial.
With the scores level at 2-2 and the encounter drawing to a close, Gento stepped up to become the hero in extra-time. The madridista legend decided the match with a low drive, scoring a crucial goal in the European Cup final for the second successive season. Juanito Alonso was also heavily involved, making two vital saves in the closing stages.
The goals flowed in the knock-out rounds
