He was honorary president of Real Madrid since the year 2000.
After spells as a player and a coach, Alfredo Di Stéfano maintained his links with the club through institutional work. After Florentino Pérez arrived as the president of Real Madrid in the year 2000, his first decision was to name Di Stéfano honorary president in recognition of his importance to the club’s history.

He was also named president of the Association of ex-Real Madrid players. During this period, the Blond Arrow received numerous accolades, including the Order of Merit, from FIFA in 1994, and the Royal Order of Sports Merit Grand Cross.

Recognition from the club
The greatest distinction came from the club on 5 November 2000. After a proposal from the Board of Directors, headed by Florentino Pérez, the Members’ Representation named him honorary president of Real Madrid, in thanks for his total dedication to the club.

As honorary president, he collected the trophy for the Best Club of the 20th Century, awarded by FIFA.

The Real Madrid legend became the primary ambassador for the Whites around the world. With his presence at the presentations of all new players to arrive at the club, such as, for example Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, Di Stéfano transmitted the importance of the club and its values to the biggest stars.

Presence at Ciudad Real Madrid
The club named Castilla’s stadium Alfredo Di Stéfano. At the entrance to the stadium there is a huge statue that reproduces his famous celebration when he scored against Vasas in the European Cup.

Tribute in the Bernabéu Tour
One of the latest recognitions of his career at Real Madrid came in 2012, when a section of the club’s museum dedicated to him was opened. There, visitors can relive the highlights of the Blond Arrow’s career and see images of the Madrid icon and objects related to his career.
