We won our second Intercontinental Cup 25 years ago
Real Madrid became world champions on 1 December 1998 with a win over Vasco de Gama.
It was 25 years ago that Real Madrid won the second of their eight world championship titles by beating Vasco de Gama in the Intercontinental Cup. The match took place at the National Stadium in Tokyo and Raúl was the star of a historic moment for Real Madrid with the winning goal. The striker decided the game in the final minutes, dribbling past two opponents in the box and leaving them on the ground before scoring the winning goal.
Earlier, Guus Hiddink's side had taken the lead through an own goal. Roberto Carlos crossed from the left and Nasa, in his attempt to clear, put the ball into his own net. After the break, the Brazilians equalised through Juninho, but Raúl settled the game with a goal for the history books.
