Valverde: “We managed to push on and get the win”
“We have to continue on this path, modestly, with hard work and effort,” said the Uruguayan.
Fede Valverde struck the winning goal against Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium. The Uruguayan’s thunderbolt drive from distance crashed off the crossbar, off the keeper’s back and into the goal to make it 2-3: “It was a great match and the weather was spectacular. It's the first time I've played here. But what's most important is that we won. We dominated the first half, but we were up against it in the first few minutes. Then they scored a penalty and we found ourselves behind, but we managed to push on and get the win.”
“We have to take a self-critical look at ourselves. We played a good game, but they got into the game because of one of their goals. They pressed and that's normal, but we have a good team capable of playing better in those minutes.”
Vini Jr. and Bellingham
“Vini and Bellingham had great games and they've shown that with their goals. For the first one, Bellingham won the ball back and set up VIni Jr. to score a great goal. Then Jude performed some magic for the second goal.”
Winning goal
“I was a bit sad because I looked at the scoreboard and it didn't say Valverde. One of the opposition players told me that the goal wasn't mine, but the important thing is that we got the three points.”
