Today marks 76 years since the 9th Copa de España
On 22 June 1947, Real Madrid retained the title against Espanyol.
Some 73 years ago today, Real Madrid lifted their ninth Copa de España, retaining the trophy they had lifted in the previous campaign. Their 1947 final rivals were Espanyol, who they defeated 2-0 at Riazor. It was a tight-fought game throughout, ultimately being forced into extra-time. Our team took the title in the second half of time added-on thanks to goals by Vidal and Pruden.
On their way to the final, Real Madrid, led that season by Baltasar Albéniz, won two-legged knock-out ties against Ferrol, Betis, Castellón and Athletic Club.
