Real Madrid took an early lead against Feyenoord: Paauwe deflected Roberto Carlos' cross from the left into his own net in the 15th minute. The Brazilian full-back was at the heart of the action six minutes later, making it 2-0 from inside the box.
The Dutch side reduced the deficit through Van Hooijdonk's free-kick, but Guti sealed the win in the 60th minute with a header to make it 3-1. Real Madrid have won five Super Cups in five different cities throughout the history of the competition: Monaco, Cardiff, Trondheim, Skopje and Helsinki.
