Gonzalo scoops AFE award as Primera Federación top scorer and Group 2's best player
Our forward struck 25 goals for Real Madrid Castilla last season.
Gonzalo García was one of the standout names at the fourth edition of the AFE Awards (Asociación de Futbolistas Españoles), held at the Plaza de Los Toros in Las Ventas (Madrid). The Real Madrid striker was rewarded for his impressive performances for Castilla last season, picking up the prize for the best player in Primera Federación Group 2, and the Enrique Castro Quini Award, as the category's top goalscorer.
The academy graduate hit 25 goals to become the leading marksman in a single campaign since the creation of the Primera Federación. The figure also saw him equal Mariano as Castilla's top scorer in the Regular Season in the 21st century.
Grateful for the recognition
"As you know, I am away playing for the U21s National Team, and I can't be there at the gala this evening. I want to thank everyone: the AFE, and all of my colleagues who have voted for me. I'm incredibly proud and this goes out to all my teammates and coaching staff from Castilla last year. Congratulations to all the award winners," said Gonzalo in a video he sent to the gala.
