In addition, the captain is now also the second Madrid player with the most appearances in the history of the European Cup.
Karim Benzema equalled Santillana as the fifth most-capped player in Real Madrid history 645. The Frenchman reached this figure in his 14th season at the club and is ahead of Sergio Ramos 671, Sanchís 710, Casillas 725 and Raúl 741.
Benzema made his debut on 29 August 2009 against Deportivo La Coruña. Since then, he has made 436 La Liga appearances, 133 Champions League appearances, 49 in the Copa del Rey, 9 in the Club World Cup, 13 in the Spanish Super Cup and 5 in the European Super Cup. After lifting the Copa del Rey against Osasuna, our captain has now won 25 titles and is, along with Marcelo, the Madrid player with the most trophies in the club's history.

With his 133rd game, the Frenchman eclipses the 132 played by Raúl and now sits behind only Iker Casillas 152. His first match in the competition came on the 30th of September 2009 against Olympique Marseille, marking the beginning of a legendary Champions League career, during which he has lifted the trophy five times. What’s more, with 78 goals, he is also Real Madrid’s second all-time top scorer in the competition behind only Cristiano Ronaldo 105.
