5-1: Kroos and Rüdiger help Germany win their EURO opener
Both were in the starting line-up against Scotland in the opening match of the competition.
Germany picked up their first win at the European Championship with a 5-1 victory over Scotland in the opening match of the competition. The hosts were far superior to the Scots in a game in which Toni Kroos and Rüdiger started. The midfielder was substituted in the 80th minute, while the defender played the entire match.
It didn't take long for the Germans to take the lead. Wirtz scored the first goal from the edge of the area after a move led by Kroos (9'). Ten minutes later, Musiala extended the lead with a powerful shot (19') and, on the stroke of half-time, Havertz scored the third from the penalty spot (45+1'). A second-half strike from Fullkrug (68') confirmed Germany's win. Scotland made it 4-1 in the 87th minute, but the Germans completed the rout in stoppage time through Emre Can.
