1-0: Chelsea lose before visiting the Bernabeú
NEWS.
Chelsea were narrowly defeated away to Wolves on Premier League matchday 30 before facing Real Madrid next Wednesday in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals 9:00pm CET. The Blues, on Lampard's return to the bench, weren't able to cope with Lopetegui's side, whose first-half goal from Matheus was enough to seal the win for the home side.

Chelsea looked the better side at the outset, but as the first half wore on Wolves gained possession and began to look dangerous down the flanks. Matheus volleyed from inside the box beating Kepa to make it 1-0 in the 30th minute. Diego Costa could have had a second before the break, but the Spanish keeper kept his attempt out.

Madrid's upcoming rivals began to put on some pressure in the second half, reaching the danger zone more frequently but were repeatedly thwarted by some solid home defending. Lampard made some changes and switched up his front three. Pulisic, Mudryk and Aubameyang came on and Chelsea had the better chances. The home side were able to withstand the pressure however and ended up taking all three points.
