Real Madrid won the Copa de España for the seventh time on this day 87 years ago. Barcelona were their opponents in the final, played at Mestalla on 21 June 1936. Real Madrid went ahead in the early stages with goals from Eugenio and Lecue but Escolà's goal in the 29th minute kept the game alive until the final whistle. It was Ricardo Zamora's last match as a Real Madrid player and he made a number of important saves to clinch the title.

On the road to Mestalla, the Whites beat Arenas Club in the Round of 16 after a replay, before two-legged wins against Athletic quarter-finals and Hércules semi-finals The squad was coached by Francisco Bru.
