On 13 September 1953, the madridista legend played the first of his 600 games for our club.
On 13 September 1953, Paco Gento made his competitive debut for Real Madrid in a League meeting with Osasuna, as our team enjoyed a 2-0 win. That was the start of a legendary Real Madrid career for the man from Cantabria which lasted 18 seasons. Gento hit 182 goals as a madridista and was the first ever player at the club to make 600 appearances.
Gento compiled a quite spectacular madridista trophy haul, notably winning 6 European Cups, a feat that has never been equalled. He also got his hands on 1 Intercontinental Cup, 2 Copas Latinas, 12 LaLiga titles, 2 Copas de España and 1 Small Club World Cup. His standout role in the history of both Real Madrid and football worldwide saw him elected as Real Madrid honorary president in October 2016 by the Members' Assembly, a position he held until his death on 18 January 2022.
