Today marks 70 years since Di Stéfano's first appearance at the Bernabéu
On 28 March 1952, Real Madrid's tournament to mark their Golden Anniversary got underway and Di Stéfano was the standout player for Millonarios.
In order to mark their Golden Anniversary, Real Madrid held a series of events including an international football tournament, a celebration of the club's 50 years that would ultimately result in the discovery of the man who would go on to become their greatest ever player. It was a three-team competition, with Swedish side Norrköping and Bogota-based team Millonarios both being invited. The latter of the two was home to none other than Alfredo Di Stéfano. The opening game took place between the two teams on 28 March.
The clash was the first time ever that the madridista legend set foot on the Nuevo Estadio de Chamartín pitch. The Blonde Arrow put on a show in front of his future fans and was one of the best players on the pitch as his team went on to claim a two-two draw.
Spectacular performance against Real Madrid
Two days later on 30 March, Di Stéfano delivered another divine display in full view of all madridismo. Millonarios beat our team 2-4 thanks to the Argentine's brace, to be crowned champions of the Golden Anniversary tournament. Real Madrid had set eyes on the player who was about to change their history.
