Ferenc Puskas died at the age of 79 on 17 November 2006. On that day, both Real Madrid and footballing world lost one of the best strikers in history. The Hungarian player became a world legend thanks to his goalscoring prowess and at Real Madrid he topped off a dream strike force alongside Di Stéfano, Kopa, Rial and Gento.
 
Puskas was born in Budapest on 1 April 1927 and arrived at our club at the age of 31. His performances helped to bring about one of Real Madrid's most successful eras. As a Real Madrid player, Puskas won 3 European Cups, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 5 Ligas and 1 Spanish Cup. As a striker, he scored 242 goals in 262 games and is one of the greatest goalscorers in Real Madrid's history.

World football memory
One of his most unforgettable moments as a Real Madrid player was in the final of the fifth European Cup, in which he scored four goals against Eintracht Frankfurt in 1960. This is still the best record in a final of Europe's top competition. As a tribute to his career, a bust of Puskas stands in Real Madrid Sport City. In addition, FIFA named the award for the best goal of the year Puskas Award after him.
