67th anniversary of club's second European Cup
On 30 May 1957, Real Madrid defeated Fiorentina at the Bernabéu (2-0).
On this day 67 years ago, Real Madrid lifted the second of their 14 European Cups. The venue for the final was special, as it was played at the Santiago Bernabéu. On 30 May 1957, the Madrid fans had the chance to see their team successfully defend the title of continental champions, which they had won the previous year in the first ever edition of the tournament. The opposition on this occasion was Fiorentina. Di Stéfano struck the first goal in the 70th minute and, a few minutes later, Gento sealed the victory with the second goal, when he slotted home past the Italian goalkeeper.
On the road to La Segunda, Real Madrid had a tricky tie against Rapid Vienna in the first round, in which a replay had to be played. Nice and Manchester United were the opposition in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively. The victory against Fiorentina gave the Whites their first league and European Cup double that season.
