Real Madrid became five-time European champions in one of the most memorable matches in the history of football. On 18 May 1960, the Whites beat Eintracht Frankfurt at Hampden Park (Glasgow), with the remarkable performances of Puskas (4 goals) and Di Stéfano (3). The madridistas overcame Kress's opening goal to secure a fifth successive title, a feat that no one has achieved since.
 
Before this historic encounter, Real Madrid defeated Jeunesse Esch, Nice and Barcelona in the previous rounds. They defeated Barça in the semi-finals by two 3-1 scorelines. The top scorer of the tournament was Puskas, with 12 goals.
