Today marks 54 years since the basketball team's 13th Copa de España
On 23 April 1971, Real Madrid retained the trophy against Joventut (72-63).
Real Madrid were too strong for Joventut in the grand finale, as they clinched their 13th Copa de España crown. The match was played in Vitoria, and Luyk (18 points) and Brabender (16) spearheaded a 72-63 victory for Madrid. The success saw the Whites lift the trophy for the second year in succession against Joventut, continuing a run of cup dominance in which they took six editions in a row between 1970 and 1975.
On their way to the trophy, Pedro Ferrándiz's boys beat Barcelona 138-122 on aggregate in the quarter-finals, while in the next round they prevailed over Manresa (149-186) to secure their place in the final. Along with the cup triumph, Real Madrid capped off the season by winning the league to finish with a double.
