53 years since club's 15th league title
On 14 May 1972, Real Madrid clinched the title on the last matchday with a victory over Sevilla.
Today marks the 53rd anniversary of Real Madrid's 15th league title. On 14 May 1972, the Whites clinched the title after beating Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu (4-1) on the final day of the season. The Madridistas overwhelmed the Andalusian side with goals from Amancio and Santillana in the first half, and a double from Pirri in the second.
That competition, which featured 18 teams, ended with Real Madrid in first place with 47 points. They were followed by Valencia (45) and Barcelona (43). Pirri (11 goals) and Santillana (10) were the team's top scorers. The Madridista team was coached by Miguel Muñoz, who won his ninth and last LaLiga title in charge of the side.
