Olga Carmona has been presented with the Premio León del Deporte 2023 at a gala hosted by the El Español newspaper, which this year celebrates its eighth edition. The Real Madrid ace receives the prize after winning the World Cup for Spain in Australia and New Zealand, playing a crucial role in the team's success. She was named Player of the Match in the final against England and was the star of the show, netting the goal that saw her country get their hands on the trophy. Olga collected her award at the event, which was also attended by Florentino Pérez.

The Real Madrid president had a few words to say, underlining the Seville-born defender's achievements: 'We madridistas are incredibly proud because the Premio León del Deporte has been awarded to our player Olga Carmona, as a representative of the Spanish National Team, who have brought joy to every single one of us by winning the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.'

“What's more, you have become an example of the Real Madrid DNA: giving it your all and never giving up. Your historic World Cup-winning goal will live forever in the memory of ever Spaniard, just like the one you scored in the last minute of the semi-final with Sweden to help us reach the grand finale.'
An example of strength and perseverance
“You were Player of the Match in the final on a day which, due to life's circumstances, you went from glorious joy to immense sadness with the loss of your father. And you coped with it all with the greatness of a young athlete like yourself who, like all of her Real Madrid and National Team teammates, contributes with passion and commitment on a daily basis to ensuring that women's football continues to grow in our country.'

Olga: “It's an honour for me to receive this award
'Real Madrid president, Florentino Pérez, my presi, thank you so much for being here with me and for the beautiful words you have just said. It's an honour for me to be here today to receive this award and to share it with the rest of tonight's winners, who I would also like to congratulate.'

'I was fortunate enough to experience the most incredible moment any footballer can dream of in their National Team shirt. A victory for an entire national, which speaks to the good work being carried out in women's football in Spain and reflects the efforts of the generations of players who have fought for this moment for decades. This will drive us to keep fighting to make sure women's football continues to grow and reach the place it deserves.'

'In my case, the emotions following the final were multiplied. On occasions, life pushes you to the limit and I know, Dad, wherever you are, you helped me achieve my dream. It's an honour for me to receive this award. And I cannot forget my teammates, both for the National Team and Real Madrid, without whom none of this would have been possible. And of course, my family. They have always supported me and they know all the hours of hard work that lies behind all of this. I love you. Thank you to everyone.'
