Today marks 89 years since the seventh Spanish Cup
On 21 June 1936, Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 in the final played at Mestalla.

Today is the 89th anniversary of Real Madrid's seventh Spanish Cup success. Barcelona were our rivals in a final held on 21 June 1936 at Mestalla. Madrid went ahead in the opening stages thanks to goals for Eugenio and Lecue, before Escolà's 29th-minute strike kept the game tense until the end. The game marked Ricardo Zamora's final game for the madridistas, and he left on a high, having made a string of remarkable saves, including a truly unforgettable stop to keep out Escolá from point-blank range.
On their way to the Mestalla finale, our team got the better of Arenas Club in the Round of 16, a tie that required a third-match decider. In the other two-legged knockouts, Madrid came past Athletic Club (quarters) and Hércules (semis). The squad was coached by Francisco Bru.
