130 years since Santiago Bernabéu was born
A defining figure in the history of Real Madrid, he was club president for more than three decades and turned the club into a worldwide sporting benchmark.

On 8 June 1895, Santiago Bernabéu was born in Almansa (Albacete). He was a player, coach, director and president, and his influence is immeasurable in the club's legacy. During his tenure as club president, he was instrumental in the club's growth in both the institutional and sporting spheres. In addition, among his initiatives is the construction of the Nuevo Chamartín stadium, which was inaugurated in 1947 and renamed after him years later.
Bernabéu was named president of Real Madrid in 1943. Under his leadership, the club won 6 European Cups in football, a competition of which he was the driving force, 16 league titles, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 6 Copa de España trophies, 2 Latin Cups and 2 Small World Cups.
