Real Madrid became world champions for the sixth time on 16th December 2017. Six years ago today, we beat Brazilian Gremio at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi in the final. In an evenly contested match, a  Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick was enough to retain the title won the previous year in Japan.

The goal by the Portuguese player delivered a new trophy to Madrid's trophy cabinet. Additionally, Luka Modrić was awarded the Golden Ball for best player of the tournament. With this win, Real Madrid closed the most prolific year in its history in terms of titles.

The semi-final
With the Croatian commanding the midfield in the semi-final, The Whites overcame Al Jazira 1-2. Modrić set up Cristiano Ronaldo for Zidane's side's first goal, before Bale sealed their place in the final with the goal that completed the scoring.
