Tenth anniversary of the ninth basketball European Cup win
NEWS.

It is ten years since the ninth Basketball European Cup win. Real Madrid won the title in the Final Four at the WiZink Center. Just as 20 years prior in the Eighth cup win, our opponent in the final was Olympiacos. On this occasion, the outcome was a  78-59 win. Carroll put on a show in the third quarter (11 straight points out of his 16 total) and Nocioni was the Final Four's MVP. It was the third trophy win of the season, after the Supercopa and the Copa del Rey, for a team that would end up completing a historic milestone that year by taking a clean sweep of all five available trophies.

Before the title decider, our team beat Fenerbahçe in the semi-final (96-87) and Olympiacos beat CSKA. The Greek side put up a fight in the final, and, despite trailing for most of the game, they went one up with 14 minutes to go at 40-41. However, Real Madrid knew they had a unique opportunity and did not let it slip. Carroll and Nocioni propelled the team in the next few minutes and Llull put the game beyond doubt to the delight of a passionate Palacio crowd. It was one of Felipe Reyes’ most special trophy wins, doing so in front of his fans and in the city of Madrid.
