Butragueño: “We are Real Madrid and we love a challenge”
“Playing the first leg at the Bernabéu means we must get a good result and with the support of our fans, we can do just that," he said following the Champions League quarter-final draw.
The club's Director of Institutional Relations Emilio Butragueño spoke to Realmadrid TV to give his impressions on the Champions League quarter-final draw that threw up a clash with Manchester City: “We are Real Madrid and we love a challenge. We're up against Manchester City once again, they have huge potential and resources. They're a very dangerous team and the reigning champions but we're going to approach the tie in a unique manner because we have quite a few days to prepare for the first leg, which will be crucial. Playing the first leg at the Bernabéu means we must get a good result and with the support of our fans, we can do just that."
“We're a competitive team who knows how to play these kinds of games and the Bernabéu is capable of creating a very special atmosphere that helps the players. This team has shown time and again that it has the ability to come away from incredibly difficult situations in a victorious manner. This is an immensely tough competition and the finest of details can be decisive. Mistakes tend to be incredibly costly, so we need absolute focus from the first minute and we should trust a team that has shown us they will do exactly that. We're all together and the support of the fans will be vital. The Bernabéu has to help us get a good result so we can then defend it in Manchester."
Excitement
“They will be two amazing games for the fans and everyone knows what this competition means to Real Madrid, the players and our supporters. The sense of anticipation is enormous. We know how difficult it will be but we'll approach it with the excitement that comes with giving our fans something to celebrate and clinching a place in the semi-finals."
Minimising mistakes
“This could have been the final, with the stature of these two teams, but it's come in the quarters and we have to deal with it. We have a challenge before us that will demand the very best of every single one of us. The team must prepare to play two fantastic games with the hope of making the semi-finals. The players will be eager to show they want to be champions and they have the ability required to go all the way."
