89 years since team’s second league title
Real Madrid clinched the league title on the penultimate matchday after thrashing Arenas de Guecho.
Today marks the 89th anniversary of the Real Madrid’s second football league title. On 19 March, 1933, the Whites mathematically clinched the title on the penultimate matchday of the campaign, as the madridistas thrashed Arenas de Guecho 8-2 courtesy of a hat-trick by Luis Regueiro, braces by Olivares and Hilario and a goal by Lazcano.
Real Madrid ended the season in first place with 28 points, followed by Athletic, on 26. Olivares became the club’s first ever pichichi and Ricardo Zamora was the goalkeeper to concede the fewest goals in LaLiga. The team was managed by Firth who successfully defended the previous season’s title win.
