It is 66 years since Real Madrid won their second Copa Latina. On 23 June 1957, the team coached by José Villalonga won the title after defeating Benfica 1-0 in the final with a goal by Alfredo Di Stéfano. Previously, the madridistas had beaten Milan in the semi-final of the competition, which was played at the Santiago Bernabéu.
 
With this title, Real Madrid closed an excellent 1956/57 campaign, in which they also won the League and their second European Cup. They were also champions of the last ever edition of the Copa Latina. They also won this international trophy in 1955, a tournament which pitted the best teams from France, Spain, Portugal and Italy against each other.
