Real Madrid won their third European Cup at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels 65 years ago. Milan were the opponents in the competition's first ever final to go to extra time. The match was a pulsating affair and the Italians took the lead twice, but goals from Di Stéfano and Rial took the game into extra time.

Gento emerged as the decisive player in extra time to score for the second year in a row in a European Cup final, making it 3-2 in the 107th minute. Juanito Alonso also played an important role, thanks to his key saves in the dying embers of the game.
