On 20 March 1976, the Whites mathematically secured the championship after defeating Barcelona 114-76 with five matches still to play in the competition. Lolo Sainz‘s charges finished the league campaign with a record of 29 wins and three defeats.

That season’s domestic competition was divided into two parts: first the Regular Season, with Real Madrid topping the standings, followed by the second phase involving the teams with the most victories, where the madridistas sealed the trophy with five games remaining. Walter Szczerbiak was the team’s top point-scorer in the league campaign, averaging 30.9 points per game, as he spearheaded Real Madrid to their ninth league title on the bounce.
