The Real Madrid legend made history on 31 October 1986 by becoming the first Spanish player to play in the North American league.
Thirty-seven years have passed since Fernando Martín made his NBA debut. The centre became the first Spanish player to play in the competition on 31 October 1986. The Real Madrid legend made his debut with the Portland Trail Blazers in the North American League, and the Seattle SuperSonics were the first side he played against in the 25 games he played in the American competition.
Prior to leaving for the NBA, Fernando Martín made history with Real Madrid during five seasons. In 1987 he returned to our club to complete a legendary career, only to be cut short by his tragic death on 3 December 1989. His honours list includes 4 Leagues, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 2 Cup Winners' Cups, 1 Korac Cup, 3 Copa del Rey and 1 Spanish Super Cup.
