It was on 29 September 1988 that Real Madrid lifted their first Spanish football Super Cup. In that edition, our team, who were playing as LaLiga champions, faced cup winners Barcelona.

The first leg took place on 21 September at the Santiago Bernabéu, where Madrid won thanks to goals from Míchel and Hugo Sánchez to take a 2-0 lead in the final. Eight days later, Madrid lost 2-1 at the Camp Nou, but went on to win the trophy.
