35 years since the Korac Cup victory
Real Madrid beat Cibona in the two-legged final.
Real Madrid won the Korac Cup 35 years ago, overcoming Cibona in the two-legged final. Having won 102-89 at home, our team was crowned champions in the second leg, played on 9 March 1988 in Zagreb, in which the home side won by a narrow 94-93 scoreline.
Thanks to the performances from Romay, Branson and Alexis all three scoring over 20 points, amongst others, Madrid opened up a 13-point lead from the first leg. That lead proved to be enough to clinch the title on the road in the second game. With Petrovic scoring 47 points before his arrival at Real Madrid, Cibona secured the win, but it was not enough to overturn the deficit. With 22 points, Alexis was the top scorer for Lolo Sainz's team in the second leg.
