Miguel Muñoz, one of the great legends in the history of Real Madrid, passed on 16 July 1990. He was 68 years old at the time and his importance was divided between the pitch, where he played 275 games, and the dugout, where he was in charge for 14 consecutive years.

As a player, he played for Real Madrid for 10 seasons, from 1948 to 1958. Miguel Muñoz starred in one of the greatest moments in the club's history when, as captain, he lifted the first European Cup. His list of honours as a footballer includes two other European Cups, four LaLiga titles and two Latin Cups.

Legendary coach
After playing a part in one of Real Madrid's most successful eras as a player, Muñoz added to his legacy with a spectacular career in the dugout. He holds the record for the number of games he managed at the club 605 and between 1960 and 1974 he became one of the most successful coaches. As a coach he won two European Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, nine Spanish League titles and two Spanish Cups. He also coached the Spanish national team.
