Training at the new Foundation school in Italy
Around 50 vulnerable children from Brescia will benefit, with support from the Nuovo Cortile Scs Onlus Association.
The educator-coaches at the new social sports school run by the Real Madrid Foundation in collaboration with the Nuovo Cortile Scs Onlus Association in Brescia Italy have received their first training session in the methodology, For a Real Education: Values and Sport. Driven by football, basketball and values, the Foundation's second school in Italy will help around 50 children from one of the most deprived areas of the city, home to a mix of ethnicities and cultures and a prevalence of drug use and crime.
The training days in football and basketball aimed to introduce the Real Madrid Foundation methodology to some ten educator-coaches who will be involved in the new project. Besides helping them to put the value education into practice with a training session, they learned about white cards and the bracelets used as teaching tools to support them in their work.
Encouraging healthy lifestyle habits
The basketball activities are carried out in the Salesian chapel San Giovanni in Brescia, while the football sessions take place at the Santa Maria in Silva chapel. The goal is to give children between 8 and 15 the chance to play sport in a safe environment and to teach them healthy lifestyle habits, as well as to promote values such as respect, teamwork, equality, and self-esteem that will help to prevent school drop-outs and boost social inclusion.
The new project in Italy joins the one being run by the Real Madrid Foundation since the end of 2019 alongside the Associazione Portofranco in Milan and the Asociación Fatima Traccia. It aims to provide a comprehensive education for children, mainly of immigrant origin, who get the chance to combine extra-curricular school assistance with training in football and values twice a week.
