Speakers at Education for the 21st Century in Latin America and the Caribbean event visit Real Madrid City

Ministers and secretaries of education from Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Uruguay were given an insight into the Real Madrid Foundation's educational outreach work.

Real Madrid's director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueño, opened the doors at Real Madrid City to the speakers taking part in the Education for the 21st Century in Latin America and the Caribbean: Prosper, Compete and Innovate in the Digital Age conference that is currently being hosted by the Inter-American Development Bank IDB and the Organisation of Ibero-American States OEI in Madrid.
 
The IDB and the Real Madrid Foundation have been working together on socio-sporting projects in Latin America and the Caribbean since 2017. In the 2021/22 season, the two institutions strengthened their link-up following the visit of the IDB president. The Foundation is an active member of the 21st Century Skills Coalition and the Private Sector Coalition for the Recovery of Latin America and the Caribbean, both of which are promoted by the IDB.
 
The Real Madrid Foundation, which has its own educational methodology: For a REAL education: values and sport Por una educación REAL: Valores y deporte runs 169 socio-sporting schools across 22 countries that support 22,517 children and young people living in disadvantaged situations or who are at risk of social exclusion. These socio-sporting schools offer holistic projects where values-based sport is part of a social outreach programme that includes nutritional support, health services, schooling and associated training in a range of areas, including computing so as to limit the digital and technological gap.
