Real Madrid Foundation opens third socio-sporting school in Romania
The project, run in conjunction with the FDP Foundation and the UEFA Foundation for Children, will cater for vulnerable minors in Bucharest.
The Real Madrid Foundation has launched a third socio-sporting football school in Bucharest Romania in conjunction with the FDP Association-Protagonists in Education and the support of the UEFA Foundation for Children. The aim of the programme is to cater for the needs of minors from families facing socio-economic struggles in a country with a high school dropout rate and where minors have a high risk of living in poverty and suffering social exclusion.
The project has been launched with a group of 25 children from the isolated neighbourhood of Teuil Doamnei and their number will increase throughout the season. This new school takes its place alongside the Real Madrid Foundation projects that the UEFA Foundation for Children supports across Europe and sees the Real Madrid Foundation increase and cement its outreach presence in the city, where it has been since 2012.
Children’s homes
The minors set to attend the new school come from two children’s homes Pinocchio and Floare de Campla. The initiative aims to target school dropout in an area where social conflict and the shortage of educational and entertainment facilities are major issues.
Benefits
The socio-sporting school in part of a holistic provision that will see these minors receive academic support, socio-health assistance and socio-cultural activities in addition to the educational football sessions with a view to fostering skills that allow them to socialise in a constructive manner to pursue their studies.
Values of team sports
The values of team sports are motivation, camaraderie, healthy lifestyle habits and responsible self-esteem, amongst others. These are acquired throughout the Real Madrid Foundation’s educational methodology and represent a catalyst to bring about social change across communities and improve the participants’ quality of life.
